HABITA struggles for the defense and awareness of housing as a human and constitutional right in Portugal. We struggle against evictions that are putting people out of their homes in brutal ways and with no alternatives. We struggle against the conception of housing as a merchandise that is played in the market with speculation and indebtedness. We defend the social function of property, so we denounce the thousands of empty buildings.
We struggle for a city that is made by the people and for the people, diverse and culturally rich against the gentrified city made by speculators.
HABITA organises debates, street actions and press releases, it addresses politicians and challenges society to take a position; HABITAT collects information that helps denouncing housing injustices and promotes proposals for housing and city rights.
